STUDENTS of the InternationalFashion Training Centre(IFTC) showcased theirworks to the crowd at SungeiWang Plaza recently as part of theshopping centre’s Spring SummerFashion Showcase 2007.
The fashion show had songket couture by former student graduate Irwan Md Ali, kebaya and bridal couture by graduate students, and trendy and funky designs by first term students.
For the songket couture, the collection is a mix of East and West as well as old and new, according to Irwan.
“It is inspired by the delicate weaved texture of the songket fabric which is rich in ethnic designs and colours and are blended well with Western patterns and silhouette with additional fabrication such as raw silk, chiffon, laces and intricate appliqués to form individual details for each design,” Irwan said.
Irwan graduated from IFTC’s affiliated college in Paris, France and is an upcoming young designer in Singapore.
For the Kebaya Collection section, graduating senior student combined the Malaysian kebaya with the Western evening look.
“The theme is to make the kebaya go well with a pair of jeans or even a miniskirt,” IFTC principal Annie Wong said.
Even the first term students were given the opportunity to present their funky new ideas to the public.
“We want our students to be exposed to all this and we give them guidance along the way so they have the confidence,” Wong said.
